I’m trying something new… a video blog. Let me know what you think. I added my original transcript below.
I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church. 3 John 1:9-10
Diotrephes apparently had great influence in the church. However, he used that influence to tear down John and effectively shun people. John, who had literally been with Christ many years ago, immediately recognized the evilness of Diotrephes’ attitude and condemned it. If you read the entire book of 3 John(1 chapter), you will notice that most of the church was faithfully living for Christ and showing His love to both the brethren and to strangers. As in most cases, it only took one person to cause problems for the whole church. People who set themselves up as authority figures and then start strife are doing the work of Satan, not God. Let us all seek to bring Christ’s love to those around us, and be cautious of modern day Diotrephes.
